Information for institutes

Internationale Promovierende, Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler - Ein Leitfaden für Institute und Lehrstühle

As a central service facility of the University, the International Welcome Center is available as a contact for all international doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and (visiting) scientists as well as their host institutions.

By looking after and supporting all non-academic matters, we would like to offer our new Rostock residents and guests a pleasant stay and good conditions that allow them to focus on their academic work.

The information provided for this purpose on this website is summarised compactly in the adjoining brochure for host institutions.

Our services are aimed ...

  • at all institutions of the University of Rostock,
  • its affiliated institutes as well as
  • to the research institutions associated with the university.

Researchers applying for a visa pursuant to § 18d of the Residence Act have the option of concluding a so-called hosting agreement or a corresponding contract for the implementation of a research project between a researcher and a research institution.

The hosting agreement can be submitted to the embassy instead of an invitation letter from the respective supervisor of the hosting research institution when applying for a visa; the hosting agreement is even increasingly accepted by the embassies rather than the traditional invitation letter.

The following sample hosting agreement provided by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) contains all the required information that must also be included in a corresponding contract:
